My problem is tolerable during first gear take-offs, but "tolerable" was a carefully chosen word. Even worse is the occasional lazy shift into second, when I'm just puttering around town nice and casually. Given a chance, the engine will rev down too fast, mismatching the engine and tranny speeds, and causing an engine stumble as I let off the clutch pedal. It's rare, but darned annoying when it happens.

As for that service bulletin that you're referring to, it only applies to the '98 model year 70-series cars. Here's a portion of the TSB as it's listed in All-Data, which generally reprints the Volvo TSBs word-for-word:

Some vehicles may experience a decrease in clutch efficiency, which could result in difficulty when changing gears. To prevent this condition, a coupling on the clutch control cylinder will be secured.

The TSB also lists a part number, 9181729, described as a "clutch control cylinder adapter kit 1 (contains quick coupling, seal and assembly fluid)."

I'm also aware that, beginning with the '99 model year, the clutch release bearing and slave cylinder were combined into one unit, which can only be replaced by pulling the tranny. (Yes, really.) That's why the aforementioned TSB doesn't relate to my car.
