Not likely related. On '98s when the ABS control unit fails, the ONLY thing that happens is that you'll no longer have ABS/tracs and the ABS light will be on. The brakes will function normally otherwise.
If your ABS control unit is now inop, has the initial vibration problem gone away? I'd be very surprized if so.
