I'm getting ready to dive into my timing belt, and have read some posts (volvospeed, etc) which have stirred up some questions:
1) When removing the serpentine belt, I have seen reference to using a 1/2 inch breaker bar with 3/4 inch adapter as well as using vice grips with 3 quarters. What is the best home-made tool to release the tensioner?
2) For the timing belt auto-tensioner, I have seen a procedure to compress it and place a pin in it. Is this just to check for leaks? Must the tensioner be compressed while installing the new belt? Should the pin be pulled out of the tensioner "fast" or "slow" (have seen both)?
3) I understand that there are two sizes of timing belts. Is there a good vendor that understands this and can get me the correct belt the first time?
Thanks!
Andy
