When should you replace the water hoses on an 850?' 850 1996

Hugh

I like to think of it this way. Your car is 8 years old and has done 200,000.Think of how many times the hoses have heated up and cooled down during that time. Hoses deteriate due to the heating and cooling process. They may look o.k but knowone know what condition they are in on the inside without removal. To be on the safe side and for the sake of a few dollars I would replace the top/bottom hoses, heater hoses that go through the firewall, expansion tank hose, and the hose that goes from the expansion tank to the thermostat. There is also a small rubber hose at the back of the engine near where the hose from the expansion tank joins the coolant rail (approx 4 inches long). I would also replace this.

I have an 1995 850 T5 and it has only done 136000klms and I replaced these and some hoses that are on the turbo last year. Mine were getting to the end of their life and if I had left it any longer I may have ended up with bigger problems. There are plenty of suppliers for parts etc online that can do you a good deal on hoses etc.

Hope this helps

Stew
