8 Ohm speakers 850

The rear end of the factory audio system is two pairs of 8 ohm speakers in parallel, hence the amp 'sees' a load of 4 ohm. Replace the 8 ohm speaker with a 4 and now the amp is seeing an impedance around 2-3 ohms, which is dang close to a short circuit. At a minimum, the distortion, particularly in the bass, will go up. Worst case, the amp output transistors will become crispy critters.

As other have pointed out, the new speaker won't match the sound quality of the others either. Mebbe time to hit a boneyard?
