This is a common problem in all 850 wagon. I replaced mine a couple years ago.
You grep hold the old trim and pull it out from either side (slide it out). You will need some force to pull it out.
I ordered a new one from Volvo dealer. Installation is tricky and need a lot of pressing the new trim in place.
With the old trim out, I cleaned up the area (gap). Slide the new trim from either side slowly. It needs a lot of patient. After the new trim is in place, press down the trim firmly to make sure that it is "flat" all the way. I used my finger to do that and ended up with a sore finger tips. So, I used a small piece of wood to help me to complete the process.
