Without copying and pasting, you implied that the police forces in major cities was decreased by as much as 20% and calling 911 may not get an immediate response. Therefore, make sure that your shotgun has ammunition and is cleaned and at hand, just in case.

In the UK and Western European countries, hand guns and semi-automatic rifles are not allowed. Hunting rifles are permitted. This works so well, the local 'beat cop' does not carry a weapon. The 'federal' police are armed, some with automatics, as you will notice when walking close to an embassy or federally sensitive buildings.

Yes, the USA has a lot of acreage compared to the EU countries, along with 350MM people. If we let 100 thousand people immigrate into the USA, the majority of us wouldn't even notice. Heck, 1MM newcomers wouldn't even make a dent.
