Nelson,

For starters, if you are lucky you can get a set of Mahle oversized pistons for $450 (3+ years ago). Then it is a complete disassembly of the block along with all new bearings, cylinder boring, possibly crank polishing, and finally assembly.

You might be able to get the parts and machining services for right around $1K if you are VERY frugal.

In short, if its not burning oil and compression/power is normal turn up the radio and ignore the slap.
