9/7 -
initial issue: No Spark coming from the coil *to* the distributor.
Installed:
Plugs
Plug wires
Distrib Cap
Rotor
Installed a new coil (thinking that possibly the issue was the original coil)
Also installed new crankshaft position sensor. (what a pain *THAT* was!)

"I just received and installed a brand new Ignition Control Module....
• My guess is that this fixed the spark problem.
But all the previous cranking washed down the cylinders with fuel, causing a loss of compression and continued no-start.

"Still no start. She *CRANKS* like you wouldn't believe".
• Fast cranking supports compression loss theory.

"I can smell gas after I've attempted a start, so I'm fairly certain that the problem is nothing related to the fuel pump or fuel pump relay."
• This also supports gas wash-down of cylinders before spark was restored.

• What's Required NOW:
...is to remove plugs and put a couple of ounces of oil into each cylinder , then spin it over a few revs to distribute the oil over cylinder wall & rings to restore compression. When cranking speed slows to normal install plugs.

NOTE: Don't try starting if the oil smells real gassy. In that case fresh oil is called for before starting.
