Not rare, according to an internet mechanic name Roy, who sees many more of these cars than I do. But unrelated to the stuck chime, as I think you already stated.
However, the failure of the switch to make good contact in KP-II is tested along with that red wire by watching the power at the orange lead on the AMM. I repeat myself. Over and out. Already forgotten what model year we're talking about here.
