If you can ever get some guidance from "uncle Art" PAY ATTENTION He has been a bit of a pioneer, one of the first to combine clear descriptions with photos online. He has a blurb on the door panels here: http://cleanflametrap.com/doorHandle.html
About the lubrication, WD40 would be a poor choice. (not really a lubricant) I use white lithium grease, but there might be something better.
