How does a condenser die? 140-160 1973

Whack whack whack. That is the sound of my head hitting the wall as I try to solve a no-start of epic proportion. I can occasionally persuade it to run poorly for a few seconds but mainly it just spins.

I've posted about this way too much, but for those of you joining a game already in progress: There is fuel. The SU float bowls are apparently not flooding the cylinders. The ignition checks out, by all rational standards. TDC, timing, dwell, plug wire order, presence of spark in the plugs outside the cylinder. All the ignition parts are new -- except for the condenser.

The condenser is at least four years old. I've never changed it, on the theory that it isn't broken. Maybe it is now.

What are the symptoms of a failing condenser?

I have a new one lying around that I'll slap in there as a hail mary before the Tow of Shame. Should I have hope?

Yours despairing,
