I need some candid advice from you good people...and please forgive this long post.
The fuel pump #7 fuse keeps blowing,(3 X last year) and I cannot get any mechanic(including my long time vintage Volvo specialist,)to get the the root of the problem and fix it once and for all.( They just 'replace the fuse and wait 'til it happens again', and, though it's not my daily driver, this problem is dangerously unpredictable, has occured on the freeway, I'm running out of AAA tows!)).. Should I keep it and only drive it occasionally and locally, or sell it to someone who will not only love it, but understands how to nurture it's (otherwise impressively few) mechanically geriatric needs.
Another Volvo Specialist I brought it to (while in good running order, as it is now) said that if I brought it in to him next time it blows, he'd replace the fuel pump, then do an extensive electrical diagnostic --the total of which would probably exceed in cost what the car is worth.
I have yet to go for that option.
I've read the threads on here which address the f.p. fuse problem, but much of the DIY/terminology is beyond my expertise. Should I print these out and take them TO my regular mechanic? They've always been great to me, but I know some can get touchy when customers try to tell them what to do..
The car has always been well cared for, looks great and otherwise works wonderfully.. I bought it brand new,my Dad bought it from me 20 years ago,and drove it only part time until he went into elder care.. I've had it back for 2 years and the car only has 94K original miles on it.
I'm enormously attached to this car..but if I can't trust it OR a mechanic to fix it,I'll have to part with it.. It breaks my heart.. Help please??
