I LOVE my 1980 242 DL, But.... 200 1980

If the standard fuse keeps failing, then the current draw is too high from the pump. This means the pump is failing. Happens all the time.
If the existing pump has undercoating on it, then it's original. In any event, you'll probably have to replace it. Wiring is not going to be a problem - the fuse is evidence enough that the wiring can carry lots of current. No electrical "diagnosis" is needed.
