I hung a tuner/CD player under the dash of my PV. The radio worked fine, but the CD player never really worked satisfactorily. Even with the amount of shock absorbing stuff I wrapped around it, the engine and road vibration inherent in PVs caused a lot of annoying skipping as soon as I'd get off the interstate. The problem gradually got worse till the poor thing died. Rather than replace it, I loaded my favorite music onto an iPod and now listen to it through earphones - definitely an improvement. Now I plan to put a Volvo Bendix AM/FM of somewhat newer vintage than the car in its normal location.
I've been reading up a bit on adapters that allow iPods to transmit to car radios, but most of the information I have found applies to sound systems in modern cars. Does anyone have any experience, information, theories as to whether something like that would work with one of these old Bendixes? Better ideas?
BTW, the Bendix could do with a bit of sprucing up and it tends to wander off stations. I remember that repair of these old units was discussed here, but I don't seem to be able to get back to that thread with the search engine. I'd appreciate a pointer in the right direction.
Thanks,
Bob S.
