There are a lot of ways to get your ipod signal to the radio; either wired or wireless, your choice.
If your old radio tends to wander off the stations, you may want to consider installing a newer radio, preferably one with an audio input jack on it!
I installed a perfectly good Bendix AM/FM radio in the dash hole, then installed my big JVC unit in the glove box. I have AM, FM, 12 CD Changer, Tape, and XM Radio. The CD changer is under the front passengers' seat, although I had originally intended to install it in the trunk.
The thing I really like about my setup is that it uses remote controls (one for the JVC, one for the XM Radio) so I don't have to take my eyes off the road to fiddle with the music.
I don't have an ipod yet, but that will come in time. I expect I'll get the one with all the memory so I can also hook up a video monitor later on.
If you haven't settled on a way to get everything set up, keep looking at possible solutions. The good thing here is that none of this experimenting will cost much, so you can try out several setups until you find one you like.
Good luck!
