I replaced the cylinder head. Had it running. suddenly stopped. The crankshaft bolt had loosened.

On this engine you don't need to take off pully to replace timing belt, the previous owner must have loosened, and I didn't notice or check it.

After tightening, no start (no pop at all) engine spun like no compression. Compression check- 0 all four cylinders! Still have spark and gas.

I have threee sets of timing marks on the crankshaft...

1. on pulley for drivebelts

2. On timing belt gear.

3. On balance shaft gear

After looking, the marks for 1 and 2 still line up with TDC on piston and the timing marks on camshaft gears. No 3 however, seems to have moved.

This doen't make sense to me. It seems to me that the crankshaft pulley (1) is keyed to crankshaft and would no be able to be moved relative to the others.

I did notice that after the bolt loosened, I was able to operate the starter, and did not see the timing belt turn! Was I turning the crankshaft but not the belt?

This is the biggest project I've worked on so far, and I don't know if I blew up my $650 head or not. (ouch)

Could I have blown the head gasket? I might not have had it torqued down enough, my torque wrench gave me problems. Would this cause these symptons?
