Electrical Problem 200

Although the non-turbos from 1982 or 83-on had 70Amp (and after 1985, 80Amp), the 240 turbos stayed with 55Amp units. Not sure why. Maybe there were clearance issues with the bigger units. Maybe the smaller alt's could handle the presumed higher RPM's of the turbo engines better...

If you have a spare 70Amp, see if it fits. I replaced the 55Amp in my son's 81 with a 70Amp from an 84. Dropped right in, but the main charging lead is a bit stretched due to slightly different positioning of the B+ post on the bigger alt.
