Computer trouble's 200 1989

Rodney,

Remember, K.I.S.S. (please don't take the last "S" personally).

There are three common causes, and a non-Volvo mechanic would have missed all three:

1) ECU, as mentioned by others.

2) Fuel pump relay (solder joints go bad, you can resolder, I did mine before it failed). This is the FIRST thing to check. Ground the relay, the pumps should activate, if not remove the relay, pry off the cover and check it out for bad solder joints inside. Obviously if they are fine suspect fuel pumps.

3) Crank sensor. Many people do not even know these exist on the '88 up cars. They are not easy to see, and when they quit, you get no fuel and no spark. Related to this is the ignition amplifier, this is not common, and you will get fuel but no spark.
