I ended up blasting away the undercoating with a steam cleaner before putting the engine back together several years back. What prompted this was the valve cover leaked at the back and the resulting spray of diesel filthed oil and some fuel turned the undercoating into a thick gooey mess that I considered a fire hazard in itself. What I did find after the blasting was absolutly no rust anywhere on the seams, spot welded sections or the built-up sections that make the front frame cradle section. The only rust I did find was the drivers side rear where that hump is for the trunk sidewells, the rubber plug was missing.
Werick I did get your email from the other night and sorry to hear of the cars demise. You know this might not be a bad time to find a 900 car to diesel up! Just a thought
