I basically agree with you...I have gotten over 180kMi on a gear, and replaced it during a rebuild...it hadn't failed yet even then...I have no problem with that...but I have seen them fail at under 100kMi...that's unacceptable!...I have always suspected that the number of ENGINE thermal cycles (not just ambient in a garage, George!) are the biggest contributing factor to hub and gear seperation...does the term "differing coefficients of expansion" mean anything to anyone around here?
