i don't think you can ground the hot wires (bright colors)that would be a short circuit, you must mean you are putting the yellow red to the positive side of battery???, you might cause some serious damage to computer, are all the fuses ok? is there one under hood near the coil? it's in a tiny plastic case with 2 red wires going to it, do you have 12 volts at the relay, i'm not that familiar with the 84 wiring, so if there are heavy red wires under the glove compartment check for 12 volts with ignition on
