Yes, the brake light circuit in the bulb sensor is indeed the one most likely to die, because the current requirement and frequent on-off. So is the brake light fuse, in such a way it might look perfectly good without your X-ray vision.

Here's an example of a bulb failure warning switch solder joint crack.
