Doh! Brakelights are gone now

RE: BFWS relay. I think that 240 and 740 with 3rd brake light use the same relay.

In that relay is a lots of contacts and coils, wires, and what-all. I believe that it can go bad on one place and be OK on another.

It closes when the current draw on one side of a monitored pair varies from that of the other side. On the 240, monitored pairs are tail lights, low beam headlights, and brake lights. They handle the 3rd brake light in there somehow.

So no bulbs = equal load = no BFWS light.

Can you check for presence of 12 volts at one of the brake light switch terminals? On the 240, one is hot all the time, key in or not. If yes, then depress brake pedal and test on the other terminal.

If yes, keep the pedal depressed and check at the tail light harness connector. That's the connector from the car harness on to the tail light circuit board. Pull the connector off and check in there at the right and the left side.

I really think you will find the problem is ahead of the BFWS relay. Beyond it the circuit for the brake lights is individual, and your are ALL out.

Good Luck,

Bob
