Joe;

Rod-knock(?) can be caused by no oil pressure on start-up (no non-return valve in cheapo oil filter?) before pressure comes up...but I wouldn't expect it to last that long!!....also by uneven warming ef engine internals after starting...I recommend driving like "a little old lady" at least until temp needle is off the peg...and only "drive it like you hate it" after the temp needle is in the normal region.
