Stripped axle stem thread 120-130

This is interesting, because I just did a break job and took a test drive today. I was careful to jack both wheels, spin the wheel I did the new cylinder on and screw in the adjuster at bottom until I could hear the shoes rub the drum inside, then backed off until it just spun free. When both wheels were in the air and I could spin the axle, I couldn't hear a single sound after putting everything back in place. I then took a test-drive only to find that there was a faint rubbing sound coming from the back!! It sounds kind of like a metal-on metal scrape, but pretty low frequency, not a squeel.

Anyway, one thing that bothered me was that the crossbar peice that helps activate the e-brake system had this curved end to it. I couldn't quite remember which way the curved part faced or went back in so I had to guess. I tried to consult my green Haynes manual, but the picture for my girling style system just pictured a straigh bar, with no curved bend at one end. Anybody know what I'm talking about?
