Engine won't turn over let alone start 444-544

Bob;

Those symptoms are typical of either a(n almost) dead battery OR poor connection...

Also, the battery voltage must be measured under (preferably high) load to be of true value...even a "dead" battery will come back to what looks like a normal voltage without a load.

If the bat voltage (measured right across the terminals) goes to its knees with a starting load, you have a dead (discharged) or seriously sulfated (hi internal resistance) battery.

If bat voltage stays a healthy >12V but solenoid/starter do not get sufficient voltage to function, a poor connection is likely the cause...any starting current path connection may cause problems through loosenes or corrosion. Fortunately there are not too many in a 122...don't forget the groundstraps also.
