Normally you wouldn't need a welder to replace the exhaust system.
If someone in the past welded parts of the system, they didn't need to. The entire system goes together with just bolts, clamps, and rubber hangers.
You don't seem timid when it comes to replacing parts on that '67. It will probably cost less to replace the entire system from the manifold to the tailpipe yourself with a high quality slightly larger diameter system than to have a local shop "hack" one together with one size fits all off the shelf system for you.
Yes your car came from the factory with a resonator in the rear and that always is the first thing to go as the system ages. Usually breaks where the pipe goes into the resonator. It is an easy fix to just straight pipe and eliminate the resonator altogether.
I use Penzoil 80W-90 in the M40 (4-sp) gearbox.
