M46 wagon shifting problem 700 1991

Had the same problem w/ mine and it turned out to be the linkage pin coming loose. There's a allen acrew on the bottom of the shifter lever that holds the pin in place. You can see if it's worked out from the top by removing the boot and cover and you can push it back in place but you need to crawl under the car to tighten the setscrew. It is a pain because it's right above the flex coupling and hard to get to.
