I don't think the 1800 tunnel is shaped the same at all, but if you can find a 72 140 or any 164 up to and including 72 the piece that's spot welded to the top of the tunnel is an almost perfect fit.
In all but the warmest climates 90wt gear lube will make the od shifting sluggish, I've tried it. I use 20w50 Amsoil racing motor oil in mine and it works splendid, with the added benefit that it's dyed red so you can identify leaks easier.
You can apply power to the solenoid and listen for a consistent click, but theres no reasonable way to test it under pressure except to drive it.
