I stay the hell away from those places!
Eventually my health will prevent me from working on cars, but until then I really can't see paying someone to work on my car unless it is something I can't do, like an alignment, or something I can't figure out. Both the Volvo dealership and the Toyota dealership that I frequent charge $79.95 for front end alignments. Pep Boys advertises them for $50 or so, but then they don't have acres and acres of new cars to look at while you are waiting.
To me it is worth the $30 to FEEL that they know what they are doing, even though they might have some greenhorn actually doing the work...

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 245K looking forward to 300K badge. >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
