side draft carbs 1800

HI Jaydee !
Yes I think You need 45`s. Are the valve-size original ( 42/35 or 44/35 )? I have no manual of those Isky- cams, can You tell specs. of them?

Hi JohnMc !
Those DCOE`s looks fine, but I think that when you must use 36mm chokes in 40DCOE ,those are also too small. I have used 40`s with 36mm inchokes last in Race-tuned Renault 8 Gordini (1300cc). Engine was almost "dead" under 5000RPM, but it does`t matter in Racinc-use.Its difficult to get 40/36 combination work in low RPM`s, because floating is so weak.( 45DCOE`s has 36mm inchokes factory stock replacement) I like to use about 2mm smaller inchokes, it takes out few horsepowers in the high RPM`s, but gives more torque in low RPM. How well does those carbs keep balance? I notice, that there was not syncro-adjustment between carbs. How many rounds are the idle mixture screws open? ( usually 1-3 ) If more than 3 rounds, idle jets can be too small. I build one about 160bhp engine, it has 40DCOE`s 33mm inchokes, 1.75 needle valves, F8 55 idling jets, F54 emulsion tubes, 140 main jets and 200 air-correction jets. Of course every engine has own adjustments. Btw: Those carbs are working almost "forever" if You serviced them well. It is good if you lubricate throttle axles ball bearings reculary( about once a year) Under the lock nut and washer, there is a metal shield whith holes in it, under that is piece of leather, which has meaning to hold oil for the bbr. You can do this whitout taking carbs out in the manifold. It was odd, if they don`t sell new DCOE`s there. In here, you can buy 45DCOE about 400E/piece, 50 and 55 DCO`s costs little more. Whithout them are made in Spain, the quality is quite good, only jets are little bit unfinished. YES, nothing beats the sound of WEBER`s.

Yrs: WEBERMAN
