740 acceleration - Just try this ?? 700

Dave,

I am watching jump through all of these hoops.

From the get go, I was suggesting that you slip the timing belt one tooth one way, then the other to see if your car would idle at 750 or not. The idle not coming down to 750 is a major indicator there is an ignition timing issue.

Right now, you can not get that car to idle below 900 RPMs, (THIS IS A PROBLEM) the acceleration studders, the timing appears to stay at -12 in a static state. Your acceration sucks, like it winds up slowly with a sort of venturi effect and the car has little power. Mine did the exact same thing.

My symptoms were exactly the same and I had to slip the timing one tooth and when I finally did get it right, the car ran perfect and had tons of its' old power back, just like it had before I changed the belt.

Please try moving the timing one tooth, hold the crank stable, and line up the cam on the white dot then move it CCW one tooth, tighten up the belt, and start the car. NOTE the idle speed when you do this. Don't even look at the timing, when the idle drops to 750, the timing will be right.

Then try it CW one tooth if the one tooth CCW doesn't work. It took me about 10 tries, then when I did get it set right, the car ran perfect. Don't ask me why or how but, that is exactly how I solved the issue with my 740T that you have veen descirbing all along.

I wish I could come over and do it for you dude ! I bet I could fix it for you, or at least comepletely eliminate the timing thing and idle as the issue.

Cousin John
