Forgot to mention it's a M40 transmission. Pretty sure the head is a B. Definitely not an E or F.

Carbs are twin SU HS6's. Sorry for the misqquote.

I cleaned up the carbs recently. The pistons move freely, dropping to an distinct clunk when I let go of each.

Brakes work fine. I'll try your idea about disconnecting and plugging the booster hose.

Where can I find a new valve?
