Hmm. Sounds familliar. Did you buy that red one in Sacramento from eBay?
With no handy kit such as Ron's for my keyless Citroen, I have a toggle switch for IGN on and a momentary button for batt-starter. To do this in a 544, as suggested, get another coil... and live with the weirdness.
As far as anti-theft is concerned, take the distributor rotor if you're going to leave it for a while. As for myself, I just count on it being a Citroen, anybody who can figure out how to start it, get the suspension up, change gears, and stop might deserve it.
