M41 Synchro question 140-160

The bearings wear out and the layshaft drops out of alignment with the mainshaft. I think it is more noticeable in the two gears that are closest to the worn bearings.

It is possible that you are not hearing any grinding because the bearings are submerged in trans oil.

Look for metal particles in the drained trans oil and bits stuck to the drainplug magnet. I bought a layshaft and bearings from Scandcar a few years ago.
