It's funny. About a half hour after I wrote that, I started thinking of the same thing. So now, I have to try to explain my way out of it!
I'm thinking that after the bearings go and the shaft is mis-aligned it binds against the gear on the mainshaft. Possible? Now I'm not so sure.
Maybe just a coincidence?
I guess regardless of whether it's the syncros or the layshaft, the gearbox has to be taken apart. Maybe it'll be a combination of both!
