Rough idle....replace harness? 200 1984

I thought I did a decent job of cleaning my head....yours is SPOTLESS! I like your style Art. I hate working on grimy engines as much as I hate cleaning my grimy hands every half hour. Need to find some workable gloves. Tried the latex diamond gloves but I sweat like a pig in them and so for now i use these cheapo brown cotton jersey type gloves for under car stuff but even these I have to pull off to get some feel. Wish there was some perfect mix without having to spend 20bux a pop for the fancy ones.

Coincidently, I purchased the exact same Scotch 33 tape at Lowe's yesterday and went through 2 rolls. They had 88 and 33..but the 33 was Hi Temp. Couldn't find my wide roll so settled on the scotch. It worked very well on the harness which is now installed and ready for the big test later today.

This was an all day affair being there were more things to do and some minor repairs to the new harnsess. It wasn't one of Dave Barton's better ones and when I bought it, they were fetching $150+. Install was pretty straightforward.

I found what could be the cause of the rough idle but won't know till I start it. While doing the work last weekend I couldn't fully remove the manifold because the previous harness was threaded between #3 and #4 runners, so I just moved it over towards the firewall and worked with this thing constantly in my way. When I removed the old gasket, it came off in very brittle pieces. So what do I find when I COMPLETELY pop off the manifold this time??? A piece of old gasket UNDER the new gasket in the far corner by the firewall by the engine hook...still wrapped around the bolt hole and luckily sticking out so I could see it, otherwise it would have stayed there again. I installed another new gasket just to make sure. THis could be the holy grail for the air leak everyone mentioned.

Have a question regarding the IAC mount?? That thing is large enough to support a boat and just gets in the way there. Mine has 3 rubber bumper feet that are very stiff so I doubt there's any real benefit to them. I decided this thing is better left out because my harness is now about 50% thicker in this area and getting everything crammed into this spot was stressing the connections at the sensors. What I did was wrap the IAC with the same plastic "loom" I used in parts of the harness, and secure it to the support arm of the intake that runs down to the block. It's tied with a heavy duty zip tie and its stable and oriented correctly...actuall, better than before because now the hose to the bellows pipe fits perfectly. The added benefit is MORE SPACE in this area and easier access to the IAC if I have to remove it again. I also oriented the screws on the hose clamps of the valve so I can easily loosen them now without having to take stuff off first. My concern is that maybe the IAC should be grounded to the chasis, but in looking at the diagrams, I don't see this. What do you think?? Would prefer to hear from you first before I start her up.
