new to the 240...electrical problem 200

Welcome aboard! While the engine is running, measure the voltage with a DMM across the battery terminals, what is it? If the measurement is less than 13V (assuming the lights are turned off), the Alt is dead. 12V is what a charged battery will provide, if the alt is toast, the battery "charge voltage" will never reach the 13.8V to 14.3V charge.

Hope that helps... your alt is probably dead.
