Bad Tach Or Bad Sensor ?? 700

The tach takes its signal directly from the ground side of the coil - if you have a Bosch ignition, it's usually a red/white wire on the #1 post. It picks up the break in the ground when the coil fires, and translates that to RPM. I can't imagine any way that faulty wiring would give you a high reading, so it's most likely the tach.
