The gearboxes with Laylock overdrive units attached have only one fill hole. The oil is shared by both the transmission and the overdrive unit.
The early ones (M41) with the D-type overdrive had a drain plug on the transmission and a drain plug marked "drain" on the overdrive unit. Access to the overdrive filter (the transmission does not have a filter) was through a plate on the side of the overdrive.
Later gearboxes (M41) used a J-type Laylock overdrive. Similar to the D-type, but no "drain" plug, just a plate at the bottom that covered one filter as discussed elsewhere. Oil is also shared in this version.
M46 gearboxes as used in 200 & 700 series models had either a J-type or P-type overdrive.
Types of oil? That's always a hot topic with many opinions.
You probably can't go wrong with what the manufacturer recommended, but be sure to follow through with changes too.
I happen to use RedLine MTL (synthetic) in all my manual gearboxes.
