Hi Mike
Also check the FAQ's regarding a brake line with a failure of the inner lining. It can fail one of two ways one of which could mimic the symptoms you describe. Fairly simple to test for. If you havent read and re-read all the way thru the FAQ's on brakes definitely do so.
