Cam, thanks for the tip. It occurred to me that the plugs might have fouled from all that cranking, but I was in no place to removed and check them. I was also way too fried when I finally got home to mess with it anymore.
I'm thinking that the blue coil might be part of the problem - it has seemed very warm when I've had stalling problems. This begs the question as to why it still would not start when I swapped the coil during my single driveway non-starting event.
But aside from that one aberrant event, the coil would seem to be the target of investigation here and Shannon and I guess Eric also suggested
After yesterday, I think I can rule out the ignition switch as the probable cause. I did run with that switch and coil for many months - but they were fairly cool weeks...
I'm going to check the coil resistance as Shannon says when I get home this evening.
