I did this on a race car. I cut out the doner transmission cover about an inch and a half beyond the seam where it attached to the floor pan. I then laid the new cover on the floor of the car and traced around it with a marker and cut the floor inside this mark to allow 1/2 inch overlap. then welded it on and applied seam sealer.. All cuts were made with an air chisel and took less than an hour. This was much quicker than drilling out a million spot welds to remove the doner cover. I prefer the short remote shifter.
