Is there a price difference? I'm pretty sure that there's no difference between a "GL" and a just plain 740. In 1991, I think the 740 badging went from being "740 GL" to just plain "740".

My old 1990 740 was badged "740 GL", and it had cloth seats. Our '91 is simply badged "740" (I think), and it has leather seats and ABS. Otherwise, the cars are identical in every other way. Basically, the GL is the base model (perhaps to the 240's "DL"?).

If it helps, get a copy of the VIN print-out from your local Volvo dealer. It probably says "745 GL"
