OK, I took the carbs apart again and set the float levels around even with the carb body (maybe 1mm down). It doesn't want to idle below 1000 rpm. After playing with it for about 10 minutes (trying to get the mixture right and the flow balanced) I shut it off and it was dieseling like crazy. Things are definatly too rich, but that's where the lifting pins tell me it should be. Surely the float level can't be causing this problem? It does puke fuel when shut down, but I figure that's mostly to do with the run-on as the pump is pushing fuel and nothing is running.
Timing also seems to be an issue. With my timing light, I'm not seeing any advance as I rev it up. I should see some variablility off idle (i.e increasing advance). I've don't have the vac line hooked up (as I think it is a vac retard unit) regardless there should be some mechanical advance. I've reworked this distributer and the weights were free. If I grab the rotor it twists freely.
So should I be taking more things apart...geeze I just put this together.
Thoughts?
