Idea No 2. is interesting...and it shows you're thinking "out of the bracket" as it were...which is always good...but if you were to use a solution like that (essentially making a hinge of the alt pivot boss and bracket wing arrangement), I fear that it wouldn't be possible to truly lock the whole assembly after the belt was tensioned, and keep it from vibrating in service, and I see this as a real problem with making the solution work, because I know for a fact that it is imperative the assembly be totally locked and incapable of relative motion...relative motion of these parts WILL lead to component fatigue and failures...ask me how I know...(ALL Sw-Em kit failures, both brackets and pivot bolt have occured due to non-locked assemblies which were vibrating in the breeze until things finally fatigued and broke into pieces)...I have to therefore recommend against it.
