I have been running an alternator on my B16 equipped 444 for around 6 months now without problems.
The alt. is a 65amp early GM type with a remote voltage regulator.
I used the stock bracket mounted to the block with the stock hardware. The modifications were an Alum. 1" round bar with a .375" hole thru it, cut to just fit between the "ears" of the bracket. This lets the stock bracket share the vibration and loads on both ends. 3/8-16" all thread goes thru this, the alt. and the bracket (Use Nylock or some such nuts). The alternator is modified by removing about .375" from the rear of the bottom mount boss, it is the same unit I was running on my B18b 122. There is the same relationship between the bracket location and the waterpump pully on all the red block engines until the factory started installing the alts. on the B20s (1970?).
Here is a photo showing the Al. Bar and the rear of the alternator.
Cheers & Good luck!
