couple o thoughts for the future, being you are as determined as I am.
A set of transfer punches are really a great thing to have. If ya bust a stud or bolt, the hard part is always...
1. Gettin at it! Always get as much crap out of the way as possible. In your case, radiator, grills etc.
2. Gettin a good centered punch mark om the little bastage. In this case reinstall the water pump and use the closest fitting transfer punch possible to get the punch mark centered on the busted item. the better you center the punch, the bigger the drill you can use to us the largest possible easy out.
I like the diamond burr idea. Just put your magnifiers on and go at it gently till the easy out can be worked loose, the diamond shaped punch is not a bad trick at all. you may be able to carve a little purchase into the hardened easy out cause a chisel or punch will not bite into the hard steel.
Using the ball peen on the chisel or punch calls for bigger hammer, smaller strokes. Let the hammer do the work, you provide the accuracy.
When you get the easy out removed. just continue to carve the little begger out till you can see the spiral of the threads contrasted against the the cast iron. Lots of light, good magnifiers really help.
Lastly, your can tease the remaining threads out with a sharp scribe, Usually.
All else fails a heli coil is not a great sin and pretty inexpensive.
Always Keep your drill perpendicular to the associated machined surface. again lots of room to work is essential.
That 's what I can offer from here.
Note to Ben, I busted a bolt AND an easy out to in the fuel pump mounting face a long while back. REALLY made mess of it too!! It is most assuredly a learning experience.
Beats walking the streets and frequenting bars on a saturday night (I guess)!
Best of luck and Patience to you
