Get a Bentley manual, green books from k-jet.org, a spring compressor, and a set of SAE offset wrenches from Harbor Freight (you just need the 15/16") to tighten the top nut. The Harbor Freight stuff is dirt cheap, and the only offset that'll fit "out of the box". An impact wrench really helps. The 700/900 FAQ is fairly applicable since the 740/760/940 use a similar (but slightly different design.)
If the gland nut (NOT the top nut) won't come free, remove the struts from the car, put each in a vice, and then wail on the gland nut with a giant (20-24") pipe wrench. In lieu of a vice, you can use a second pipe wrench.
